Archive for March, 2011

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I’ve been going through some health issues lately, and as a result of this, I have made the difficult decision to take a temporary break from recording new videos. You deserve an explanation, so allow me to give one.

The main thing that’s been going on lately is that my sleep has been pure shit. I used to be on a CPAP machine for my sleep apnea, but after having major throat surgery in August of 2009, my sleep apnea seemed to completely vanish. However, over the past several months, it seems to have come back with a vengeance. I got re-tested, and my sleep apnea is so bad that it’s almost like I am not sleeping at all. I stop breathing over 100 times per hour (anything over 40 is considered “extreme”), and when I sleep, my oxygen level drops to 62%, which my doctor says is like I’m almost dead. I will be back on CPAP soon (with a pressure of 22 cmH20, if that means anything to you), and this will most likely take care of a lot of the crap I’ve been going through lately, including the sudden worsening of my diabetes (I’m finally on medication for it, too).

Does this mean I’m going away? Hell no! I will be posting my Formspring Answers video this Sunday, and I have a long-overdue LP Quickie I need to work on, and I will be working on that. I also have two complete “LP Live” series to post, I just need to edit them, and they will be going up soon. I just won’t be doing a whole lot of new LP recordings for a little while… maybe a month?

I hope this clears things up. Feel free to ask me anything you’d like. I can’t guarantee I’ll answer, but it never hurts to ask!

My new computer!

Say hello to my new computer. It is so much better than my old one, which was running Windows XP (and frankly couldn’t run anything more recent). I had the computer custom-built by a company called Magic MICRO, and they really did a great job! I recommend them highly! Here are the specs:

  • AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz (Quad Core) 45nm, AM3 6MB Cache
  • Spire Kestrel-King II AMD 64 fan
  • ASUS M4A87TD / USB3, AMD 870, SATA3, USB 3.0
  • 8GB (2x4GB) PC8500 DDR3 1066 Dual Channel
  • ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI Express 16x dual head, HDMI
  • 1000.0GB Hitachi 7200RPM SATA2, UDMA 300 32m cache
  • Lite On 22x DVD Recorder Dual Layer +R/RW -R/RW
  • Realtek HD digital audio (onboard)
  • Ethernet network adapter (onboard)
  • PowMax Black Mid Tower ATX Case w/ Front USB
  • Case Fan 80 mm DC fan
  • Logisys 600W ATX Power Supply, SLI & X-fire ready

Here are some pictures of the beast! If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve already seen these…

Here is the computer, still (mostly) in its box. I tore the box to pieces due to impatience.

The front and back of the computer, fresh out of the box.

Three closeups of the back, showing off the ports and stuff.

The computer, all plugged in… and powered on!

Finally, here’s a shot of the computer’s guts. I had to take it apart because a cable came loose during shipping.

And, that’s it! I didn’t get much installed before I had to leave for work… but I’m really looking forward to using this new machine! It should make video editing and capturing go a LOT smoother. And of course I can actually play somewhat modern games now, if I’d like… but on my old machine, even console emulation was starting to choke!
